My First Blog Post

“Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”

– Mike Tyson

Welcome to the very first post to Rob’s Sports Blog, now I do not know much about blogs. So I reckon this will be some kind of adventure that we can both take. My name is Robert Kinnas, I’m an 18 year old senior in high school and very interested sports. I want to write this blog for two reasons: 1. Because my teacher, also my mom, is making us have blogs for our multimedia class and reason 2. Because I enjoy sports and feel like I can give just some straight up honest opinions about sports. Now I’m no Stephen A. Smith, but I can give the facts straight cut, and unlike ESPN these days this blog WILL BE JUST SPORTS NOT NONSENSE.

Grandparents Day

My favorite memory from Grandparents is my last grandparents day. This is my last Grandparents day at the Westfield School. To me it signifies the almost the end of my time at Westfield. It’s a tradition at Westfield that the seniors participate in the last song of Grandparents day. So it’s a nice little tribute to us knowing that is almost the end of my 14 years here.

Kindness is overrated

Kindness is overrated. At The Westfield School, there have been many controversial things happening over these last 2 weeks. So my topic given is “How can we spread kindness at Westfield?”. Although this blog is mainly sports, but I had to write on it ….. so sorry. I think in some ways, that kindness is a mutual feeling that two people can have to develop a relationship. Yet, in this relationship, I believe there has been a lack of kindness from one side…. THE WESTFIELD SCHOOL! So in order to repair this friendship I believe that Westfield should just leave everything the same and do not change, because change is not always the best.

Now for my mother, I’ll write some ways to be kind.

  • Respect your teachers
  • Write some thoughtful letters
  • Look at people when they talk to you.
  • Spend time with friends and family.
  • Hangout with your girlfriend/boyfriend

So yeah….. Be Kind I reckon.

The Curse of Atlanta Strikes Again

Another Super Bowl, where the curse of Atlanta strikes. You’re probably wandering how is Atlanta involved in this years’ Super Bowl in Miami? Well one person sticks out who brings this whole story together is former Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator and current San Francisco 49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan. Everyone remembers the 4th quarter meltdown of the Falcons last super bowl appearance. Where the Falcons were actually winning the game 28-3 in the 3rd quarter, yet everyone knows how it turns out for the Falcons. Fast forward several years later, Shanahan is now the head coach for the 49ers, who were just in the Super Bowl last night. Were up 20-10 in the 3rd quarter, and it went just like the Falcons several years back…. A DISASTER! So if you are an recovering Falcons fan from this pathetic past season, don’t feel to bad, it just happened to somebody else.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
